August 11, 2016 - Lighten Up Class - Fiber

This class was about the different types of fiber (soluble and insoluble) and how much fiber a person needs a day (about 20-30 grams a day). My tip is to buy plain psyllium husk and mix a tablespoon with 2-3 cups of water and drink it before eating dinner (or lunch). You will feel full and get extra fiber. (Psyllium husk is the main ingredient in "Metamucil" but without all the filler and fake coloring and flavors you don't need. Plus plain psyllium husk is much cheaper.)

Basically, this class was about phytoestrogens, which include soy products. While soy might be good for some, people with thyroid and/or auto-immune conditions should carefully look into soy products because highly processed soy products are not good for some people. Also, there is the issue as to whether the soy is organic or is GMO soy.
